Damen Andrew Rowan What can I say? Boredom had invaded my mind and what better way to get rid of some angst then to race around the forest before coming to a halt by a most splendid lake. Blah, that was more boring than anything else. Maybe that's why I was trotting through the buidling on all fours. Big paws bouncing off the ground while a tongue lulled out the side of my powerful jaws. Anyone who saw me would more than likely jump back in surprise, well that is if they were like me. A chosen. Humans would more than likely run away screaming about a wolf walking through the lounge area. I had my rights as did everyone else. Just because I enjoyed lopping around like an animal, listening to thoughts did not mean that I was some freak of nature.
Every thing was seeming pretty dead to me. I snorted sharply and continued on my way, all four paws making a tapping sound as I moved. My tail was high and I gelt like some kind of alpha wolf as I wondered. Maybe I should tell you all what I looked like in this random form that I had chosen to wonder about in. Well, I was a handsome wolf if I did say so myself. My coat was both a mixture of softness and roughness and the coloring was most wonderful. The coat colors went from light to dark, russet-brown and shiny. I gave a wolfish chuckle as I moved forward, sitting as soon as I came to a couch arm, there I settled and rested my head on my paws. This was going to be an interesting day.
Triangular ears twitched to and fro even though dark eyes remained shut. I'd learned from the best. The best being my beloved lynx, Shanook. At this moment she and Rouge, my chibit should have been up in the dorm room that I was allowed to call mine, though I shared it with someone else. It would be interesting sharing a room with someone other than just my animals. I sighed in my light daze and opened my eyes half way, staring out at the hustle and bustle of the every day, worry wort students. Another wolfish chuckle left me before I went back to ignoring the world.

_______________________________________________ The soft tapping of my heels hitting the ground as I wandered aimelessly, and completely lost, throughout the school. I had just gotten here, my bags waited in the office to be picked up when I wished to go to my dorm room, which I was told I shared with someone. That would be an adventure, considering the dorms were co-ed and I was not too fond with being alone with men. But I had Sephora, my fox who was trotting along beside me, as well as Demi-Tasse, my mouse lemur who was most likely asleep in my bag. They would keep me sane, and with Sephora I felt more protected. That didn't get rid of the fear, however. The fear that history would repeat itself and I would have to deal with it again. I still had to deal with it, the scars were as clear as day on my body in several places besides my face, and they were the worst on my back. And then there were things no one knew, things my step-dad had done that I refused to speak about. The reasons I ran here.
'Don't be such a worrier, Val-Chan, you'll be fine,' Sephora said to me in her usual wise tone through my head. I had powers, more than the average Chosen. Elemental control, telekenesis, and shapeshifting. And I was determined to keep them a secret. I didn't want attention, so I had made up my mind to pretend to be human. And I wanted it to stay a secret for as long as possible. So, I shushed Sephora, and used the elements to protect my mind from whatever telepathic person may be trying to peer into my mind. They would never know I had powers, however, because I had read some humans just had the ability to block the affects of Chosen powers. That way, I could fly completely under the radar, and no one would even know it. And that was a good thing, because attention was something I hated. Especially attention from guys.
I had ended up in a large area, which looked to be a lounge, standing there akwardly before giving up on trying to find my dorm. I noticed the room was pretty much clear, besides a wolf, whom I assumed to be a student, and a few other people. I moved to a window seat, setting my back against the wall as I moved my knees up, being able to set the sketchbook I always carried on my lap to draw. I pulled out my iPod, blasting 'Saviour' by Lights into my ears as I watched the wolf for a moment, then sketched the dog onto the page quickly. When I was done the sketch, it looked pretty good. I flipped the page and began to draw Sephora, who had jumped up onto the end of the bench and was curled up opposite of me. Demi-Tasse had made her way out of my bag and curled up beside her, so I smirked at the two of them being so lazy before I continued the portrait. It would be my favourite most likely. I couldn't help but nod my head to the music, and then brushed a blonde hair out of my face before going back to my drawing.

Damen Andrew Rowan I took notice of her sketching me, just out of the corner of my eye. I made a low sound in my throat as I rose up on all fours and made my way over to her, looking cool and collected as I always did. Canine brows pulled together as I took note of the fact that her mind was unreadable. I restrained the growl that wished so boldly to come forward. My tail lowered and flicked from side to side, almost like a cat, until I wondered to her side and to rest my muzzle against the seat that she was sitting on. I whimpered softly and wagged my bushy tail slowly, eyes pleading for attention. A sharp barking noise came from between my jaws.
Yup, I was desperate to get her attention. Why was that? Maybe it was because her thoughts were a pure mystery to me. Something that I had no idea about. Normally I knew what ever person in a room was thinking, but her. I had no idea what was going on in her mind. My head rose slightly and my tongue fell out of my mouth, looking sweet and innocent was the easiest thing for me to do and right now, a good pat on the head sounded nice. No, not that head, the one that held my brain within it was good enough for now. My ears were erect, turned toward her, waiting to be shooed away or a nice rub between those two alert ears.
My gaze shifted toward her animals. They were cute little buggers, but so were mine and they would be made at me for thinking about someone else's animals. I could just see it. A good swap at my face from Shannook and a harsh bite from Rouge. I winced at the thought. They got so jealous sometimes it was silly and ridiculous. They were all I needed, for now. I allowed my gaze to shift back to the girl, tail still wagging proudly.

_______________________________________________ I noticed the dog moving towards me, setting its head down on the bench as if it wanted a scratch on the head. I just took out a headphone and sighed and rolled my eyes, and a hissing noise escaped the mouth of Sephora, though she did not speak. "Whoever you are, I suggest you turn back into human form so I can give you this without you getting drool all over it," I said bluntly, my eyes never leaving my page. I finished the rough sketch, then began doing the details and such. Sephora had set her head back down, and Demi-Tasse was now making a squeaking snoring sound that clearly said she was out like a light. Demi-Tasse was clearly the lazier of the two, always sleeping. When she was awake, however, she was hyper and bouncy and hard to handle. Sephora was calm and collected no matter what, which made her a nice friend to balance out poor little Demi.
I brushed another hair out of my face as my mind raced, cautious and wary of the presence still. I wasn't one for males, obviously, and having this one so close caused me to move closer to the window on the bench. I opened my bag and pulled out the bag of gummieworms I had, opening it and popping one into my mouth nonchalantly. Though I was eating these to keep me from jumping up and running the hell away. Anyone could clearly see, however, I was a bit nervous. Though I was actually scared out of my mind and putting up every defense I had. I did not like this one bit. But I would have to put up with it, I wasn't going to use my powers here, and besides, there were others in the room. I switched the page after I had finished the sketch of my pets, back to the sketch of the wolf and then ripped out the page, holding it out. "Here. If you like it, you can have it," I said in an emotionless tone, a small smile appearing quickly on my face, but vanishing just as fast as it had come.

Damen Andrew Rowan A snort left me before I shifted forms, sitting crossed legged on the floor next to her. "You know, most people would have gladly patted my head. I don't bite you know." I grumbled before taking the picture from her and looking down at it. "You did a pretty good job. I'd like to see you capture a human though." I smiled up at her, before reaching a hand up for her to shake. "Damen." I stated, trying to hide my annoyance with her fox. What had I done to make it hiss at me? I turned my dark eyes toward the vixen and glared. "I would be a good little fox if I were you or Shannook might just get angry and march her behind down here to eat you." I could just imagine that. I almost smiled, but that would be just horrible if I allowed Shannook to eat the fox and I was sure this girl would wring my neck.
I shoved away my cruel thoughts and turned may attention back to the hand that I still had held out to her. I figured she would ignore it or make a face. Whatever. No skin off my shoulder if she was a poor sport, just meant I knew how to play nice even when I didn't want to. If need be I could play nasty too. I could proably be just as bad as her if that's what it came down too. I allowed my gaze to appraise her, taking in her features slowly. I wasn't likely to back off like a dog with my tail between my legs. No, I was better than that. I was a man, even if I was able to change into any animal I wanted to be. My near black eyes narrowed on her, trying to get into her mind, but it was as if I was being pushed out, or blocked by some unseen barrior. I growled under my breath, knowing that even if she didn't here it then her animals would. Well, screw them. I had my own happy family chilling up in my dorm, more than likely waiting for dinner.

_______________________________________________ I listened as he spoke to Sephora with a glare, causing me to glare at him. "She's protective of me, and if your little Shanook dares to do anything to her, she'll be thrown out a second storey window," I snapped, if my uncomfortable feeling had not been noticed before it sure as hell would be noticed now, "And I'm not most people." I looked at his hand in disgust and then back up at him. "Valerie," I replied coldly. I watched as Demi stretched, then made her way up to me and crawled back into my bag. I heard a low growl escape the boy and I looked back at him again. "Don't growl at me," I said strictly, "And don't threaten my animals, either." I motioned my hand and Sephora came and laid on my lap as I put my sketchbook away.
I pet Sephora gently, though she was still tense. She knew my dislike of the opposite gender, she knew what I'd been through. "Now, if you're done harassing my pets and bothering me, it's time for you to leave," I snapped harshly again, "Actually, nevermind that. I'll be leaving now. I still need to find my way around this place. It was nice meeting you, Damen." I sat up and grabbed my bag, setting Sephora on the floor as I slipped my other headphone back into my ear, then beginning to walk confidently and swiftly away, Sephora trotting beside me obediantly. I knew she wanted to go back and bite him, but I wasn't going to let her. She, unfortuneately, had almost as bad of a temper as I did... Almost. I didn't bother glancing back as I continued to walk towards the door.

Damen Andrew Rowan I shot her a look before shooting to my feet and running after her. "Don't threaten my animals, either." I snapped as I came to her side, but something of the gray, white and pale brown sort caught my attention. The big pawed cat walked slowly toward me, shaking her head. I knew I was going to get scolded. "My dearest Damen, you have such a bad temperment. Like I would eat a fox anyways." The lynx rolled topaz eyes. Her attention swiftly turned to Valerie. I glared at the she-cat as she made a soft purring sound and rubbed lightly against the girl's leg before turning her attentions to the fox and blinking her eyes in delight at meeting another creature, that was not a dog, cat or equine. She had to be the biggest traitor I knew.
I wanted to kick her in the bum and see what happened to her. More than likely she would attack my foot or leg and I would need stitchs. "I should disown you, Shanook. You're a poor excuse for a loyal animal." I shook my head at her as she turned and looked at me with a face that said it all. It said how much of a fickle feline she could be if I didn't feed her when she wanted feeding and more than likely she would be making best friends with Valerie's fox and soon I'd have the both of them sharing a meal in my room. I pinched the bridge of my nose and tried to force down my impatiance with her. I turned a look to Val. "I like how I can threaten to feed something to my lynx and as soon as she shows up, she breaks that fascade down. She's too sweet for a wild cat." I let out an annoyed sigh.
My fingers moved to press at my temples, trying to make the headache I had gain go away. This was going to be the worst first day of school in my life. I just knew it. This is how it always was. Something terrible always happened to me. Freshman year, I had food poisioning. Sophmore year, I broke my foot. Junior year, I was going to give myself a headache so bad I more than likely would go blind and I knew for a face that Senior year I would just die. Dead as a hit animal. That was my only goal in life it seemed. I sighed once more and bowed my head, watching as Shanook purred away, walking close to Sephora as though she was trying to make best friends.

_______________________________________________ I laughed lightly at the sight of the lynx trotting towards us, and heard her lecture about being nasty to Damen. Of course, they didn't know I could understand her, but I could. I smirked at the cat as she brushed against me, then went to chat with Sephora. Of course, Sephora was more than happy to have a new friend. "Well, I certainly like her more than her owner right now," I said nastily at Damen, still keeping a steady fast pace, "And I'd be happy to take her if you disown her." I smiled down at the two trotting behind us, chit-chatting. I could tell they would be friends, but could Damen and I get along? I highly doubted it. I peered down a hallway before making a swift turn into it, looking around curiously.
"So what other powers do you have?" I asked aimlessly, "Because if you're telepathic and trying to get into my mind, that's not going to work. I've had people try it on me before, and even though I'm human, I seem to have an immunity to it." I thought I might as well inform him of that before he got frustrated. I still had my guard up, stopping when I came to another intersection. The music cut off, and I looked down to see the battery had died. "Fuck," I mumbled quietly, wrapping the headphones around it and slipping it back into my bag. As I did I felt Demi-Tasse grasp my fingers then scurry up my arm to sit on my shoulder, fully awake. She leapt over to Damen's shoulder from mine, nuzzling into him and squeaking happily. "Looks like Demi-Tasse has a crush on you. Seems we both have traitors in our midsts." I reached my hand over just enough for Demi to jump back on, scurrying back to my shoulder.
That's when I noticed I was alone with him, pretty much. I had let my guard down again, and that was a bad thing. My mind raced to figure out what the best option would be to do. "Where's the cafeteria? I just had a rather long bus ride here and I'm really hungry," I said slyly, using that excuse as my escape. I knew there'd be people there, no matter what. "And I'd like a pointer to World Studies. That's my major, and I'm going to get hopelessly lost finding my classroom tomorrow morning. So if you could point those out for me I'll be on my way and you," I looked him over, "Should go put some actual clothes on." I couldn't lie, he was extremely hot. But I knew boys, and that you couldn't trust them. I just wanted away from him as quickly as possible. I crossed my arms and stood there facing him, waiting for a reply as Sephora chatted with Shanook more, and I heard Demi adding in comments here and there.

Damen Andrew Rowan My head turned and I bestowed a loving smile toward my dear Shanook. "I would have a hard time disowning her. I love her to death." The lynx looked up at me and blinked in approval. She knew I was just grumpy because I hadn't gotten my lunch and I sure as hell wanted it, but that was no reason to be grumpy. The she-cat came forward to paw at my leg lightly until I bent down to pat her head. She soon returned to her conversation and I tuned them out so I could focus on Valerie.
It was time to play nice and make some kind of an apology for being an ass earlier. I took a deep breath and looked at her directly. "I'm sorry about my manners earlier. I haven't eatten since about 3 this morning and as you can see, it's well past noon." I gaze a small smile before jumping in surprise when a small creature landed on my bare shoulder. I blinked at it several times before Val called it back. I chuckled, "Well, she'll have to fight Rouge for my attantions. Rouge's my chibit. She get jealous easy." I sighed softly before admitting, "She's very cute, though." I could have stared at that little thing all day and more than likely spoiled it rotten with treats and attention. I was such an animal lover. I should just become a vegitarion, but I liked meat to much.
I pointed to the hall we were coming up to. "Down that hallway, take a left and go down the stairs. You'll reach the cafeteria." I smiled sweetly before getting slightly excited about hearing her major. "No worries about getting lost. I have the same major, which means we'll be in the same class. You can always meet me in the lounge before heading off to class, then you won't get so lost." I ran a hand through my hair, pushing it back before it felt forward once more. I looked down at myself, "Well, I was going to go back to my room after my run, but well, I got side tracked." I looked down at the paper in my hand before looking back up at her, smiling of course.

_______________________________________________ I sighed when he said he had the same major as I did, which meant he was in the same dorm as I was, too. Great, so I wouldn't be getting rid of him that easily. Though his apology caught me off guard, and I looked at him with a soft smile. "Well since I'm going to be seeing you every day for the next year, it's okay and I'm sorry, too. I'm just... nervous. That's all. It's my first day and all here, and I technically didn't tell my parents that I was coming, so..." I trailed off, adding a slight shrug at the end. I wasn't nervous about that, I was nervous about being alone with him. I smiled at his comment about Demi, nodding and knowing full-well she had the capability to win over pretty much anyone. I also knew Damen loved Shanook. "I know how you feel, I'd do anything for Sephora or Demi." And it was true, even if it meant exposing my powers or past, I'd do it for them.
"Okay, well, um, once you get dressed, if you want to come eat with me, considering we both need food and all," I suggested, "You can just meet me in the cafeteria." I knew there'd be people there, maybe I could become friends with this boy. Of course, only around people. No way would I ever be alone with him, if I could help it. But I might as well try to get along with him, I was in the same class and dorm and I would have to put up with him for the year, so I might as well. "So, maybe we can just start over, pretend any earlier insults weren't uttered. Okay?" I asked, looking at him with a curious smile. I couldn't deny that I wanted to get to know him, but I wasn't going to let him anywhere close to me. I brushed a curl behind my ear and smiled, then heard Sephora mention something about Damen and I looking cute together, I had to fight the urge to shoot her an evil glare. I had to pretend I never heard it, but I'd yell at her later.

Damen Andrew Rowan Some how I didn't believe her, even as I nodded my head in response to what she had said. It was best not to pry into other people's lives unless they wanted you there and from what I knew, no body wanted me messing around in their life. I took a deep even breath as I smiled at her, trying to force the curious look out of my eyes. "Rouge is new to our little family, but Shanook has been with me for years. I'm still working on winning Rouge over. She tries to run away when I let her out of her cage, so I have to keep her in it. I hate doing that to her, but she's being an idiot." I sighed sorrowfully and shook my head lightly, gazing back at the fox and lynx that talked so cheerfully together.
I nodded slowly then pointed to my lynx. "Will you take care of Shanook for me? It seems she's grown to like your Sephora." I smiled slowly, tilting my head to the side ever so slightly before turning to scowl at Shanook for agree to the cute together comment. "Yeah, starting over sounds great." I said, still glaring at my foolish wild cat. She just smiled like a fool, front fangs handing over her bottom lip. I wanted to sit on her, but I would just have to do that later, when no one else was around to hear my yelling at her to say uncle. Now wouldn't that just be charming. Many people watching as I sat on a lynx and yelled at her while no response came fourth. I would seem like a total crazy person if I did something like that.

_______________________________________________ I gave him a fake curious look when he glared at the two sitting near us. "Did they say something?" I asked him, just the perfect ammount of curiousity in my voice. Of course I had heard them, I just wasn't going to let him know that. I smiled at him sweetly again when he said starting over was a good idea. "Okay, so I'll meet you there then?" I asked rhetorically, "If I don't show up, I've most likely gotten lost." Of course I was joking, Shanook would be able to give me directions. "See you soon, Damen," I said with a smile before turning on my heels and walking down the hall, turning where he told me to and then as soon as I was out of earshot I glared at Sephora.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Making a comment like that, you're lucky I don't turn either of you into fur scarves," I said as I looked back where I was walking and grumbled angrily. I looked back at Shanook with a glare. "Yes, I have powers, yes I can hear you, and yes I have the ability to levitate you and turn you into a flying ball of flames if you tell Damen. So please, don't. I don't want any attention for having three powers," My glare had switched to a pleading look as we continued down the hall, "And we would not make a cute couple! Sephhy you know me with guys..." I shut up when we neared the cafeteria, walking in and going over to where there was food.
I searced frantically for one of my addictions, and smirked when I found it. I bought a large curly fries and a bottle of coke, as well as some food for the animals. I went over to an empty table and sat down, setting the food down for them as Demi-Tasse sat on the table due to her size, causing me to give her tiny pieces of my fries. I waited patiently for Damen, thinking to myself about random events. I heard the girlie chatter coming from the two on the floor, Demi adding her usual comment in her high-pitched voice. I popped a curly fry daintly into my mouth as I waited, and rolled my eyes when their conversation turned back to Damen and I, and how they were planning to set us up. I pretended to bend over and place a few curly fries on their plate and whispered, "You know I can hear you, right?" Of course, the answer I got from Sephora was, 'Oh, we know.' I sat back up and listened as they went on, unable to do anything about it. I just hoped they'd get onto another topic before Damen came.

Damen Andrew Rowan I waved lightly as I took off, racing up to my dorm and leaving Shanook with them. Rouge just so happened to be willing to stay with me which gave me the chance to rest her on my shoulders after I'd put on clothes. I stroked Rouge's rabbit like head as I made my way toward the cafeteria. It wasn't herd to find her. It took a matter of seconds with the chatter the animals were causing. I chuckled softly before heading off to grab my own food which happened to consist of pudding, a chicken burger and curly fries. I made my way over to her as I stuff a fry in my mouth. Rouge started scolding me for bad manners and I just ignored her which was how I usually was. I placed my food on the table and sat down as well, placing my chinchilla on the table top. She made her way over to Demi and glared, making chibit noises at her.
My head shook slowly from side to side, while I reached out to grab her tail, pulling lightly. Rouge turned back around to growl in her chinchilla way before turning her attentions from be back to Demi. I gestured lightly with a hand, "This little ball of fire is Rouge. Be careful. I did actually name her after the x-man character." I smiled devilishly before sticking my finger in the pudding and popping it into my mouth. I sucked on my finger for a moment, before pulling it out of my mouth. I dipped it into the pudding once more and offered it to Rouge, who licked at it gently while still keeping an eye on Demi. It was as if she were a mind reader and had seen the affection the little creature had showed me while she wasn't around. Once my finger was licked clean, I wiped it on my jeans, then picked up a curly fry.
A sudden frown touched my lips as I gazed down at what I had. Seems I'd forgotten something to drink. I raised my head and spoke to Shanook. "Hey, will you go get me something? I'll give you a nice treat when we get back up to the room." The lynx tilted her head in thought then jumped up on the chair paws on the table, watching me as if I might be lying. I stared back at her and it was as if we might have been having a conversation in our minds. I glared at her before running a hand through my hair. "Fine be that way." I sighed at her before looking down at my food again. I shoved another fry into my mouth an chewed slowly as I watched the traitor jump down once more.

_______________________________________________ I smiled as Damen approached the table and sat down beside me, and I watched as the little chibit bitched at Demi. Demi cowered and quickly dashed for safety, climbing back into my bag. I just smiled at her, knowing that she was afraid. "Well I think she's adorable, we certainly have something in common, then. Horrible tempers," I joked, eating another curly fry. I watched Shanook leap onto the table, and then realized what he wanted. He was lacking a drink, and I hadn't opened mine, so I gestured to it. "Do you want my drink? It's not open, I'll just go get another one after," I suggested with a small, polite smile. I heard a snicker and a comment about how cute we were together from Sephora but fought back the urge to glare at her or blush brightly.
"So, anything I should know about this place?" I asked, trying to nonchalantly divert the attention to my question and not Sephora babbling on to Shanook about how cute we were and that they needed to get us together. I kept my curious gaze on Damen, which wasn't a hard thing to do, considering he was way too damn hot for his own good. I looked down at my food again, and my arms that were now crossed on the table, leaning on it. I could see some faint scars, but those could be easily passed off as past cuts and such. My back, however, was a little harder to cover up for. It was all Trevor's doing, of course, he'd always favoured knives. And me. I pushed the horrific thoughts out of my head, and ate another fry before looking back up at Damen with a sweet smile.

Damen Andrew Rowan I shook my head at her. "Nah. I'm good. I was just trying to see if Shanook would go." I smiled slyly before taking a bite of the chicken burger I had gotten. Shanook snorted at me while Rouge stole bits of my curly fries. After chewing and swallowing my bite I returned my attention to Valerie. "I wouldn't be a gentleman if I accepted your drink." I looked down ruefully, staring at the table top while I allowed my mind to wonder. My eyes were drawn to her hands and I tried not to stare at the pale scars the traced along them. I forced my eyes away, back to the fur ball that was stealing my fries while I wasn't looking. I chuckled, picking her up and placing her in my lap where she protested for a moment, then fell silent, drifting to sleep now that all her fury had melted down to ashes.
My head snapped up in surprise at her question. A shrug graced my shoulders. "Just that some of us aren't as nice as I am. Some of us are truly wicked." I smiled slighly, almost reverantly as if admitting that shamed me as well as the ones who were really like that. Maybe it was because up until I had met my step-father I had been prejudice against humans. Well, life was life and there was no changing it or making it better. Well, maybe you could change it if it hadn't happened yet and you were able to see the future. Sometimes I wished I could see it, because then I would no the things that were soming my way. The things that would cause me happiness, sadness and all those emotions that seemed so hard to comprehend or understand.
